Cells, Tissues and Organs

Learn it

Your body is built in levels, like building blocks.

  • Cells are the tiniest living units. You have trillions of them: skin cells, muscle cells, nerve cells, blood cells and more.
  • Many similar cells working together make a tissue, like muscle tissue.
  • Different tissues working together make an organ, like the heart, stomach or brain.
  • Organs working together form an organ system, like the digestive system.

๐Ÿ”Ž Amazing facts

  • Your skin is your body’s largest organ.
  • Red blood cells are made inside your bones.

๐Ÿงช Try it: Body levels model

  1. Draw one small circle and label it ‘cell’.
  2. Draw a group of circles and label it ’tissue’.
  3. Draw a heart shape made of that tissue: ‘organ’.
  4. Draw the heart with blood vessels: ‘organ system’.

Think about it: Why might different cells have different shapes?
