Learn it
Scientists answer questions using the scientific method:
- Ask a question (“Do plants grow faster with music?”).
- Research what is already known.
- Make a hypothesis: a testable prediction (“If…, then…”).
- Experiment to test it.
- Record and analyze data.
- Draw a conclusion and share it.
A hypothesis can be wrong, and that is fine! A surprising result teaches us something new.
π Amazing facts
- Many famous discoveries started with a surprising result.
- Scientists share results so others can repeat and check them.
π§ͺ Try it: Hypothesis practice
- Pick a question: ‘Which paper towel brand soaks up the most water?’
- Write a hypothesis using ‘If… then…’.
- List what you would need to test it.
- Share your plan with a grown-up.
Think about it: Why is it OK if a hypothesis turns out to be wrong?
